Nataša Kovačević, heroin of Serbian society and sport, who with her courage and positive attitude demonstrated the proper way of dealing with life’s obstacles, established a foundation that will bear her name.
“The mission of this foundation is to help athletes who face serious health problems, to help young talented athletes not only in sports but also in the education and promotion of women’s sport, particularly women’s basketball. Also, we would like to promote additional types of insurance that would be tailored to athletes” said Natasa in Belgrade.
Natasha was in February 2014, promoted as FIBA Europe Youth Ambassador for women’s basketball.
The idea for the foundation came from Mr. Lucciano Cappichioni, who heads one of the most prestigious sports agencies in Europe.
“Unfortunately, Nataša faced with the problem that changed her life, but we are all here today, together, to try to draw something positive out of the whole situation. She is one of the most interesting players with whom I have had the opportunity to cooperate. She is so strong . In my life I have seen a lot of champions and for me she is one of them. Certainly she deserves all of my respect and without a doubt the respect of the entire Serbian nation” said Mr. Kapikjoni, who noted that one of the goals of the Foundation is ensuring athletes in case they are faced with certain health problems.
“We will do everything to make this a successful project. Players can not even imagine it could happen to them something like that. That’s why we want to send a message to the world to help athletes understand the importance of the Foundation and to help us in achieving the objectives” – concluded Mr. Kapikjoni.
President KK “Crvena zvezda” Mr. Nebojsa Covic offered full support to the concept of the foundation.
“Natasha is a true example of how it should be fought in some situations. I think the players do not realize that life is not a fairy tale. This foundation and its goals bring us something new and certainly it will have our support.”
